Jerald Raymond Pierce is a writer and theatre critic in the Chicago area. He has his BFA in Acting from Ohio University, MA in Arts Journalism from Syracuse University and is a member of the American Theatre Critics Association.

He has edited for Chicago Stage Standard and Show Snob. His writing can be found in the Chicago Tribune, American Theatre magazine, Chicago Stage Standard, Show Snob, and Colts Authority.

Jerald moderated a discussion on race and culture in contemporary casting at American Players Theatre following his article detailing the controversy surrounding the company's casting of Blood Knot.

Peter Brook said of theatre in his book The Empty Space: "When the status quo is rotten, the only possibility is to judge events in relation to a possible goal." I write to find that goal and to work toward a more urgent, immediate, and lasting form of theatre.
